The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA, is home to over 150 pieces of historic locomotives and rolling stock depicting the unique railroading history of Pennsylvania. Located in modern facilities, the museum includes many interesting exhibits, including Steinman Station, a replica of a 1915 featuring numerous activities for children, and the NS Cab Simulator, where you can be a train engineer for 12 minutes!. It is well worth the visit; however, plan to spend at least 2 hours there in order to fully appreciate everything in the museum. For more information, be sure to check out their website! www.rrmuseumpa.org Share your RR Musuem of PA photos here, too!

Here are some photos of what's inside, taken on July 9, 2005. :-)

Hi,

Great photos! When I lived in Somerset Cty, NJ I would make at least 1 pilgrimage per year to Strasburg up until about 1992. I recall riding trains pulled by 1223 (D16sb) and 7002 (E7s, nee 8063). Damn, those were the days! I understand both locomotives have been retired from active service are are now strictly display engines. Is this true? I really liked the outdoor display at the museum (K4s 3750 my favorite engine and the DD1 up there as well) with the working turntable.

In 1993 my family and I moved to Illinois. We have the Illinois Railroad Museum in Union (also quite impressive!), but not the same. One of these days I'll make it back to ride the Strasburg Rail Road!

Thanks! You were very fortunate to have seen those two fine steam locomotives in service. #1223 and #7002 were both retired in 1990 and are still being displayed in the Railroad Museum. It seems unlikely they will ever return to operation on the Strasburg Rail Road (but we can always hope!). Right now, the Strasburg Rail Road is running with Engines 90, 475, 89, and 31. Check out these great links for more info!

31 has been renumbered back into its CN number of 7312.

Also on the Strasburg/Pennsylvania RR museum's website say that 1223 is a permanent static display. It won't be running anymore.
