At least temporarily. This evening I was on the MILW-West 4:55 departure out of Union Station. As we were pulling out, I saw 611 at the head end of a train. I think it was on track 15. I thought those days were long gone. I wish I knew what train that was, I would have liked to see it in action one more time.

611 was sitting at the end of track 3 in CUS this morning. Its where they usually keep the protection locomotive. The old girl looks really fine up close.

611 was on a train this morning at Union Station. It was on track 1 and looked to be dead-heading back to Western Ave. This was around 8:25.

I was fairly sure I saw an F40C on train 2121 today, but 611 couldn't have been on both 2138 and 2121. [edit: It must have been 614 on 2121.]

I KNOW I saw an F40C on short-turn 2154 today (20 Jan 05), and I would guess the same trainset runs on 2146 and 2145 in between 2121 and 2154.

Does anyone here know: after 2154, would it keep going on 2153, 2160, and 2159? (If so, no wonder they need the large fuel tanks of the F40Cs and MP36s on Milwaukee North. That's a lot of trips in one day.)

I am sure I saw 611 on 2115 and your right 614 was on 2154 tonight (Jan 20)

Your suspicion is correct meh; once 2134 arrives at CUS, the locomotive uncouples and goes to Western for servicing, then fresh, fueled-up power is sent down from Western and couples onto the cars that originally arrived as 2134 to become outbound 2121. This trainset is then used for trains 2146/2145/2154/2153/2160/2159, so yeah, an MP36 or F40C would definitely be needed. For that matter, it's too bad that weight restrictions are keeping the MP36's off of the UP lines, otherwise those large fuel tanks would really come in handy on multiple trips to Harvard or Kenosha...

2121 - 49.5 miles (CUS-Fox Lake)
2146 - 49.5 miles (Fox Lake-CUS)
2145 - 24.5 miles (CUS-Deerfield)
2154 - 24.5 miles (Deerfield-CUS)
2153 - 49.5 miles (CUS-Fox Lake)
2160 - 49.5 miles (Fox Lake-CUS)
2159 - 49.5 miles (CUS-Fox Lake)
210x - 49.5 miles (Fox Lake-CUS)
total - 346 miles

Assuming that the locomotives are not fueled at Fox Lake, I included one more trip to CUS the next morning before being serviced at Western. Is that correct?

Is something around 4 gallons/mile be about right for an F40C? If so, the trips listed above would require 1400 gallons, plus some more for idling time at the terminals.
