I heard on my scanner today via Scranton Fire and Police that there were at least four separate brush fires alongside the tracks in downtown Clarks Summit, behind the Inn at Nichol's Village. They also said that they had contacted "the railroad" (which could be either NS or CP), and they had stopped a train and were inspecting it for defects which could have caused the fires.

Anyone know anything more about this incident?

Fire was very small and took the Scranton Fire Department less than 20 minutes to extinguish according to the Scranton Times.

That is a separate location from what I was talking about but it is along the same tracks. I'll guarantee that it was from the same train.

According to Capt. Robert Corbett, the area of the fire was less than an acre. It took about 20 minutes for firefighters to put out the blaze, which started at about 12:20 p.m.

Capt. Corbett said the cause was not known.
