Tomorrow is the last run of the Jersey Shore Commuters Club car to New York City. Beginning Monday, the car will be on a Bay Head-Hoboken schedule.

So, if you are out railfanning tomorrow 10/30, it's the last chance to shoot #5459 behind electrics.

Which train is it going to?

I think it's going to one of the 23XX trains. My guess is 2304 and 2311, since the schedules of these trains most closely match the schedule held by the EP set. I don't think all the sets in BH get used for the shuttle.

Is there any reason why JSCC is changing trains? It has been on the same LB-NY train since electrification.

It may be due to capacity issues? The morning train it runs on is frequently crowded (to almost standing room only). I wouldn't be surprised if it was being pulled to be reassigned an ML set to that round trip!

The JSCC Club Car is going onto a Hoboken train - #2304 and #2309 - for now at least. It will run from Hoboken to Bay Head - similiar to its PRR days when Exchange Place was still in operation. I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually gets moved to a later evening departure (i.e. #2311 that leaves Hoboken at 5:46 p.m.) as that seems more plausible and in line with its current schedule. Look for an equipment move over the weekend from Long Branch to Bay Head! I may try it out, as I am sure they will be looking for new members on this new routing!

I've heard that NJT wants to move in a direction where all multilevel push-pull consists operate in/out of NYC while the single level Comet coaches operate on diesel powered lines. Course I guess the RVL is the exception to all this! NJT likely also wants the Club Car off the NYC route so they have more "flexibility" to try and run multilevels on the Coast Line, especially with evening train sets and even morning train sets. In the morning it is bracketed by mutlilevel train sets (i.e. a multilevel train set leaves Long Branch before it and after it at present). However, the North Jersey Coast Line still does not have a lot of multilevel train sets running on it. A bitter sweet end to say the least I am sure for most JSCC members, as I would think NYP would be more desirable than Hoboken. I thought NJT was on the kick of - get everything into NYC? Now they send the "premium service car" if you will, to Hoboken....

Hope it works for JSCC, as this is the last of its kind! It's been in operation for over 75 years now - or so the sign and its web site says. And the train that the JSCC Club Car currently operates on is hardly standing room only due to the fact that it is bracketed by these multilevel trains in the morning and in the evening follows the markers of the 5:26 p.m. out of NYC (it currently leaves at 5:34 p.m.).

I noticed the Club Car was on the rear today, so that means it will be on the front tomorrow, Friday for the morning and evening runs. Car 5459! Post some pictures (Thursday) if anyone gets out and about! The Club Car will be on train #3224 and #3269 tomorrow (last trip to/from NYC) before the Monday change over!

Just give them one of the fancy ACES cars. I'm sure that would keep them happy.

That actually sounds like a pretty good idea, it would give one of the ACES coaches some usage during the week. I'm sure that won't happen though because don't the casinos own those cars?

NJT wants multi-levels on the NJCL trains to NYP and there are some other reasons related to equipment usage. It was not our choice to switch off the NYP run as most of our current members go to New York.

However, it is a tremendous opportunity for commuters on the south end of the line to upgrade their ride. Memberships are open. And it is a throw back of sorts, as the club was traditionally on PRR Jersey City trains.

We have not updated the website, as the move has been in the works and we wanted to be sure of the cut-over before we changed the site and started the membership drive.

I am among the majority that won't be staying on with the club, as I have no desire for a 2-seat commute. It is a boon to those who have a long ride down below Long Branch. The car is extremely comfortable and clean. On crowded days, there's nothing like knowing you have a seat waiting.

It won't be on a shuttle, it will be running through to Hoboken.

As much as that would be nice - it ain't going to happen - despite the fact that the casinos own the cars! Again NJT would lose their overall "flexibility" in operations, otherwise I am sure the Club has approached NJT on the idea! The single level consist that the Club Car operated on in/out of NYC typically only did one round trip per day and then had to get qued up for its regular run. I am sure it operated as a "spare train set" during the layover periods - if needed.

Is there a restriction on coupling single level cars and multi-level cars together? Why can't this car just be coupled to an ML set? I thought the only restriction was coupling the MU's and the ML's.

You CAN couple the ML's to the comets and still operate a moving train, but then some of the features of both sets of trains will not work properly. I believe it kills the sign displays, and the emergency call boxes.
