Did any of the P30ch's survive the torch? When were these officially retired and how long before they were "disposed" of? Kind of surprised these never made their way to a frieght carrier.......

I believe that none of Amtrak's twenty-five P30CH units were saved/preserved. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will set the record straight.

I'm told the P30CH units had a unique capability which the F40 units lacked; the P30CH units could synchronize the HEP output of their alternators, so that more than one unit in a consist could provide HEP to the consist. With multiple F40's on the head end, only one F40 unit could provide HEP to the consist.

At least I can say that I made a few trips behind them in the 1970s and 1980s.

The P30CHs are no more. None were saved/preserved, all went to the torch! :(

For instruction manuals including the P30CH see:

It makes for some intersting reading on all kind of locomotives, most are in PDF format

Jhdeasy is correct about the P30 hep. Multiple sets could be put on line.
