I was just perusing google image search, looking for pics of GE 44-tonners, when this photo popped up:

http://www.locomotivesalesleasing.com/i ... quipm6.jpg

belonging to this webpage:

http://www.locomotivesalesleasing.com/Equipment.htm

at first I thought "they are going lease the 72??"
but no..clearly the photo doesnt go with the ad, the lettering was digitally removed,
the photo was flipped (look at the "F" on the front.. if you flip it back, its clearly Lakeville yard..)
and the photo is now being used to advertise a completely different locomotive that apparently IS available for lease!
but the loco for lease isnt LAL 72...
the photo of 72 doesnt even fit the description..

Alco never made an S13..but MLW did..
and since it says "MAINTENANCE Canada Wide Locomotive Industries" the loco in question is probably in Canada..

here is a pic of a MLW S13:
http://yardlimit.railfan.net/archive/bn/008-034c.jpg

its perhaps just be an honest mistake, and they put the wrong photo with the advert..
or...maybe not so honest..
the fact that it is so heavily edited makes it look quite suspicious..

anyone know who's photo of LAL 72 that is?

It appears that the person wrote the ad does not know anything about Alco Locomotives. Aside from the fact the photo is reversed, it also appears that the "F" was hand drawn.

More than that, the ad says the loco does not have ditch lights, which are pretty obvious in the picture. It also says the loco has Flexicoil trucks - aren't they made by EMD?

The other picture of 72 linked to in a previous post also shows the "Flying F" on the front of the side sill. It could be the one in the retouched picture looks funny because of whatever process reversed the picture,

And notice the placements of the horns and the engineer stand. And the blanked out plaque beneath the cab window. Can anyone zoom in and maybe id the engineer? Even though the extra (as I call it) equipment area appears to be normal, the view of the gondola and the engine behind it as well as 424 looks like telephoto. I know I have pictures somewhere that is similar to it but this:

http://picasaweb.google.com/alsorailfan ... 1834442082

was the closest to it. The blue tarp is on the northern edge of the equipment area - the switch stand would be about 50 or so ft to the south. Hard to analyze with the picture flip flopped !

I'll have to agree with you on this one. Have a look at this pic http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/lal72.jpg it shows LAL 72 also. And it has the "F" on the frame, just like in the other pic, but my pic is OBVIOUSLY different.. so yeah, I believe that website "stole" the pic, and edited it."

Just noticed that the horns have a different placement here also! So what was moved when?

There has never been any doubt that its LAL 72! ;)
I said in the very post its very clearly 72..no question whatsoever..

and there is nothing wrong with the "F"..its not hand-drawn..
the real F on the real 72 really looks that way..

the lettering on the hood and number on the cab side has been edited out,
and the photo flipped..but thats it.

as for the horn placement, its simply a matter of looking at different photos that were taken many years apart..
72 has been on the LAL for 30 years..small details change over time.

I like the 4 cylinder 251 that he listed too. I didn't know ALCO made those.
They don't. In line 6 is the smallest they make.

Thanks Scot!

The 'illusion' of the center horn was off center near the regular air horns....my bad!
