I saw an old photo of the 4449 durring her trips on the Freedom Train back in the 70's and on the tender I didn't see "Southern Pacific" written on it but instead "Amtrak". Did Amtrak have a role in the Feedom train? Was it sitckered on there because of the red/white/blue scheme Amtrak was using? what?

The American Freedom Train's tour ended in Miami. To get back to Portland, 4449 pulled a series of "Amtrak Transcontinental Steam Excursions" across the south and up the west coast in 1977 using Amtrak equipment. This is when the Amtrak lettering was added to the tender. While in Freedom Train colors, 4449 never wore any Southern Pacific lettering.
