The current timetable is dated August, 2004.
After printing a semi booklet form for a timetable with a lot of additional
information and some advertiseing too, Tri-Rail now has a small color
timetable with just the train schedules and a little bit more. It folds nicely
and will fit into my shirt pocket.
There is one advertisement on the back for the Seminole Hard Rock
Casino. A little bit of promotional information is also in this folder.
Opened up, it measures 5 by 12 inches.
A nice job.

On June 6, 2005, Tri Rail will be coming out with another new timetable
which will effect some changes in service. There will still be 15 weekday
round trips but one round trip in the middle of the day will come off and
an additional later evening train will appear.
I would prefer that a late evening train be put on to accomodate concert
goers or sports fans as well as afternoon shift workers but this did not
happen this time around.
The change is due to massive work taking place to complete the double
track project.

You can read about it at www.tri-rail.com

Work has started on the north bridge approach area they where building a pannel switch under Davie Blvd. today. It must be for another shoo-Fly like they did on the south bank(wooden ties). At Little Yard at Daina new yard track and old Trirail Airport Bus Transfer Track are connected to the main.New signals are up at South end of Daina(they are now south of Sterling Rd. were north).New signals at Hollwood Blvd. There must be Twenty or thirty signal workers in the area,at these two crossings all you could see were their trucks orange hard hats and vests.

Today, Friday, June 3, I took a quick trip to Miami Airport and back to
Fort Lauderdale on early trains today. Went down on 603 and back on 610
and here is what I encountered.
Much work is evident around Hollywood, as mentioned earlier, there were
track and signal people all over the place. Also work around the New
River Bridge area. the new high level bridge appears to be going in just
to the east of the present draw bridge in a small area between the
present bridge and I-595/I-95 bridge(s). The southbound signal at
Hollywood was out and we had to get talked by it. There were also a few
slow orders for track work here and there but while they did not help, I
don't think they added much to the delay(s).
It does not appear to me that they will get this double track project done
for at least another year, too much work to be done on the New River
Bridge and also another bridge north of the Miami Airport Station.
Major construction with a new platform and second track to the east of the
present facility at Metro Rail Transfer Station, big gang working here too.
I am still troubled by the fact that CSX is still involved here in a big way,
think they would do better if Tri-Rail conducted their own operation and
was fully responsible for the dispatching and maintenance. There are too
many problems and possible problems trying to run the line fron
Jacksonville through bell telephone lines.
For the record, southbound arrive MIA eleven minutes late and northbound
arrived Fort Lauderdale station eleven minutes late. I do not think that
was bad considering what was taking place.
Notices posted to the effect that this weekend both Saturday and Sunday
there will be bus substitution between Fort Lauderdale Station and the
Fort Lauderdale Airport Station for work in connection with the double
track project. Suspect it will take place at the New River Bridge location.

Mr. Weaver, did you pick up that new timetable yet? It is already out already and goes into effect on Monday. I picked one up while I was at the Cypress Creek Station. What a difference than the pocket schedule. This one looks like someone was in a rush and just took a regular green piece of paper, printed times on it and folded it a couple of times. It takes a little bit of getting used to on how to read it, it doesnt have the style the pocket one does. I prefer the pocket schedule though because of its size and how easy it is to read. It reminds me of the small Yonkers MN one that I used to keep with me. Thanks again for the update on the track work Mr. Weaver, Tri-Rail has come a long way, now all they need to do is get CSX out of their face. Do you think the other platform on the east side of Ft. Lauderdale Station be in use anytime soon?

What you have mentioned above is a temporary timetable. For some
reason, it takes time to get new ones distributed after they have been
announced. I think it might be reasonable to expect to see new ones in
another week or two. They might be lining up advertisers for the new
timetable too.
With regard to the station at Fort Lauderdale, the new platform is
essentially finished but the track is not. I think there will be crossovers
between the station and the New River Bridge and if that is the case, the
new platform will likely be in service after the new crossovers have been
put in and set up. Another possibility is that the existing west track
appears to need some work and they will probably get the new track up
and running and then use it for a while for everything until the existing
west track has had the necessary work.

Also only the main track is signaled in the Ft.Lauderdale Yard. The nearest signal to the north is Carmen SEDT,begin single main. Then comes New River Bridge signal, then North End of Dania,(which is still concidered a main track and passing siding till you get to the old North End of Dania, new signal renamed Sheridan). Then I believe they are calling the same tracks #1 and #2.

There is also an article on Tri-Rail's website- http://www.tri-rail.com/new_schedule.htm
There is also a little information on how these new trains will be sprinkled into the system.

The above link will now enable you to get a new Tri-Rail timetable which
takes effect on March 27, 2006, or use the one below.

Two signal bridges,(all others I have seen in Broward County are post mounted) have been installed at new locations. One at the south end of Fort Lauderdale Yard.Called Weyland,(not sure about spelling).Pannel switch mentioned above was installed at the south end of old yard stub track connnecting it to main at Weyland,(under Davie Blvd. overpass). The Stub track was where Circus Train was stored when in town. The other is at the north side of Lee Wagner Rd.overpass called Daina. And also controls new freight lead for Little Yard at Daina.

Stopped by the Fort Lauderdale station Saturday evening. The new
timetables are available, the little ones that is, and I also found the new
ones posted as well.
I also picked up a copy of their passenger newsletter called "Onboard".
They mention new equipment as being on the way. There is a picture of
double decker DMU's and they look more like the shape of an Amtrak
Superliner than like the present coaches. They were expected in February
but I have not seen any as yet. They also state that the first two of six
locomotives are expected in April.
The next few weeks could be interesting.

Tri-Rail ridership is on the move up probably mostly as a result of the
increase in service in March.
Below is a link to another interesting article in the Sun-Sentinel for
Monday, May 15th.
Some things that would help even more are some later evening service
for people working 3-11 or 4-12 shifts at Miami Airport and for people
who are attending a concert or a sporting event and second and very
important, get ride of CSX for the dispatching of this important link.
CSX could not care less about our important passenger service, they only
care about their one or two through freights and a couple of locals.
The link to the article follows.
