In the past, I remember reading that proposals were made to extend the ATSF network to St. Louis, MO and Memphis, TN.

Does anyone have any details about how they planned to do this? I remember reading that there HAD been proposals to build a line from St. Louis to the Transcon junction as Carrollton, MO.

When the Alton was taken over by the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio in 1947, the Santa Fe offered tp take the Kansas City-St. Louis route, the GM&O was willing, but the offer met with a lot of opposition, so this never happened.
