Because this well-written book by Douglas Brunt ends with Rudolf Diesel's disappearance in 1913, there is little of diesel-electric railroad locomotives in it. However, the explanations of how Diesel developed his engine are clear and fascinating. The first diesel-electric locomotive was sold in 1925 to the Central Railroad of New Jersey. I recommend the book.

I am the owner of the diesel engine of the second built diesel-electric railway vehicle in the world manufactured back in 1912.
The engine, made by AB Diesels motorer in Nacka by Stockholm (Later Atlas Diesel), is six-cylinder with 75 hp and the fuel is blown in with compressed air. The engine does not have central lubrication from the crankcase with an oil pump, but is lubricated with a lubricator that takes oil from a dry sump.

The first diesel-electric locomotive, with a 120 hp engine from Atlas Diesel, in Europe was built in 1922 for export to Tunisia.
I am 83 years old and the engine is for sale.
