Hello. Is the rail line that runs through Maple Shade ever used? If so, what is the best time for activity? Thanks.

Hi:

The line see service on average mon, wed and fri by one round trip. you should be able to catch them in the maple shade area between 2 and 3 in the afternoon. Some times the crew will stop for lunch at the Wawa by the station. they will leave the train out of the way and come up with just the engines. Return trip from Mount Holly and Hainesport should be around 7 or 8

hope this helps

In addition the station it self is intact and in great shape, an example of a typical PRR small town stattion. Two Moorestown stations about a mile and three quarters and two and a quarter miles east are also intact as well as the Mt Holly Station at the end of the line It is unusual to have this many stations (in this good a condition ) on what has been for 40 years a freight only line. It was also the very last scheduled line to use PRR steam in regular passenger service ( November, 1957).

PS this Monday afternoon at 3:10 the train went through Moorestown on its way to Mt. Holly so presumably it was in maple Shade some five minutes earlier

One of the last industries in Moorestown to recieve freight was this old building. It was a hardware store a few years ago. I think it was a seed and feed operation back then, but I can't recall exactly what they told me, it was 10+ years ago when I asked them. At the time, i think the tracks were still visable in the driveway, and a large scale was visable just inside the building.

here is a few industries still connected, not sure if they still ship via rail:

This should be the Maple Shade Station:

There once was a station at Stanwick Ave in Moorestown also, but I don't know if anything remains from that one.

I know this is a decade and a half late, but does anyone know if this information/time slot still applies? And also, I read the train is a round trip to Hainesport/Mount Holly and then back, where is the back? Where does this train come from? Why does it make the round trip in the first place? Thanks.

Conrail WPCA20 originates at and returns to Pavonia Yard in Camden. It makes the round trip to serve customers, mainly in Hainesport.

They stopped going up to Mt Holly several years ago. There’s a new runaround siding above the first customer, Atlantic Creosote not to far above the Hainesport Industrial Park. They always run around the train then work the customers coming back. I believe this is the only train that works coming back South Jersey. Usually best to catch them in the afternoons after lunchtime.
