Nice updates Steve. Looking at your Islip page on Trains Are Fun, did not see anything on Islip Speedway. Was that near the RR tracks and did they run any trains for the racing events or shuttle folks from the train station?

Friday nights one could hear the action living in the Islip Manor area...! :-)

About 1 mile north of Islip Station just off Rte. 111 (Islip Ave)! I have not heard of any LIRR trains specific to the Speedway.

Thanks, LB as I'll add a little info on the Islip page. :-)

I looked on both a 1958 & 1976 Hagstrom Suffolk Atlas, and did not see the Speedway marked anywhere on the maps. Used to go there in the late 1960's & early 1970's for the Demolition Derbys; great fun!

LB - Islip Speedway was not near the LIRR Islip Station and the LIRR had no promotions with the track
owners. The site was west of Islip Avenue north of Sunrise Highway nearer to the Southern State Parkway.
Surrounding residential development and NIMBY opposition are what finally got the track closed in 1984...

The track location was at Winganhauppauge Road east, Bates Street south and Freeman Avenue west
(from a Google Maps search remembering where the Islip Speedway property once was)
To give an idea of how loud that races were I remember being able to hear them (about) five miles away as
the crow flies  ...MACTRAXX
