Mother nature at work once again; 15 minutes earlier, my old bud johnnyloco & I had a bit of sun to work with. Anywho, here is my version of "Minutes from the Southern", inspired by Matt, who had much better luck last week for sure.

Great to see you again, amigo; I guess it's my turn to travel south now, eh?!

SA-31 went through Farmingdale at 8:27 PM

SA-38 parked the train in Shrewsbury overnight. PR-08 apparently took the train back to Browns early this afternoon

The Toms River Industrial Track lost it's last couple of customers 4(?) years ago. The lumber yard (Builders General?) changed over to truck delivery. Suburban Propane has been torn down. The track is pulled in Lakehurst. Unless a new customer builds along the track or NJT gets really interested in developing a southern run and not only builds MOM, but extends it to the Toms River Transportation Center, I don't think there is much reason to rebuild to Toms River. With the re-orientation of Rt 166 and the new bridge, it would be quite the challenge to project a ROW beyond the Toms River.

11 cars of freight. Three crews. Is there any profit for Shared Assets?

I don't know if this is true or not, but I saw someone post a while back on this thread that Builders General in Toms River wouldn't be disinterested in returning back to freight rail. I'm going to guess rail would be easier to handle, as maneuvering trucks with limited capacity on and off of Route 37 must be a pain, as with freight you can have one train deliver, and wouldn't have to obstruct traffic (assuming the train doesn't go farther than Builders General).

I thought the TRIT was abandoned before any customers made a decision on whether to stop using it or not

assuming the train doesn't go farther than Builders General).
The Builders General switch is trailing end, meaning the train must foul Rt 37 to back into the yard. The siding is short (2-3 cars). When picking up empties, they would have to shove all the way to Lakehurst (the nearest run-around) requiring them to bring along a splat (shoving platform) as they do on the Freehold run for Prestone.

I've read that Builders General made a deal with Conrail Shared Assets (or CSXT/NS) to pay for the added cost of trucking from Freehold to Toms River. This resulted in major savings in time, fuel and maintenance thus paying for the trucking costs.

Thanks for all the info as usual guys. I was able to get to Red Bank after work and get the 31 over the Navesink with RailsEast.

As he stated, we had some light to work a few minutes beforehand as shown while this NJT train crossed the bridge-

10 minutes later, the sun was gone while SA31 entered the span-
