Hi,
I've been stalking here a few years and listen to CETC-7, and CETC-8, Section A, Section B, South and North Jersey Dispatchers, Coastline yada yada. Hear all the PRs: 11, PR20, PR21 and OI trains. My question is I never hear SA 31. I park on Coastline and So Jersey Disp but no joy. Am I missing something? Thanks.

The SA-31 crew gets its clearance (Form D) from Browns to Essay and from Red Bank to Lakewood via phone before they leave the yard, so you will not usually hear them talking to South Jersey anywhere on the run (I have heard a few instances over the years on 160.860 when they are on the Southern, but it is somewhat rare). Listen to NJT (161.235) every Thursday (early to mid afternoon) for permission to enter the Coast Line at the Church Running Track switch in South Amboy, then again some 35 minutes later when they call "clear on the Southern". This will happen in reverse on their trip back, which is usually very early in the morning; the NJT conversations will be the best tip for you. Of course, if you're in the Lakewood area during the drill, you will hear a little chatter as they pull the empties & spot the loads.

Thanks Cris, I'm in Brick Monday to Thursday, hardly ever hear Coastline down there. Thanks everyone here for the info and great pics. I check this forum at least twice a day. Joe.

Thanks for the updates on the SA31. The weather was so nice today and would've been great to get trackside. Unfortunately I had other commitments after work.

Are they doing some sort of work on the line near Lakehurst and Whiting? I've seen what appears to be MOW equipment parked along the line in these areas.
