I think I've seen 97 out solo only twice; a few times with another engine; and mostly in the engine house. I've never seen 99 out alone; and never seen 98 (despite riding past Western Ave yard twice a day).

Everyone:

I scrolled thru all 80 pages of this topic to see if there was a listing showing the names on each Metra locomotive and where they were running.

Back in the RTA days when the F40s were new they were assigned to the route carrying the municipal name of each unit. I remember that 112-
113-114-115(?) were assigned to the Norfolk & Western Orland Park Line which was even more appropriate since the train numbers once used
were literally the same at one time. Does anyone have available a current Metra locomotive roster showing what each one is named?
Are locomotives still assigned to the route(s) carrying names of villages, towns and cities on their lines or is this not possible today?
Are any of the MP36s or the rebuilt F59s carrying names or going to be assigned one? This is one Metra feature that I find interesting...

I will thank all in advance and hopefully someone either has or knows of a roster showing what Metra's locomotive names are...MACTRAXX

Wow!

Thank you for that compilation, Mr. F-40C.

Of interest, I note only ONE (Downers Grove) is named for a community in the "Land of the Burlingtons".

Definitely a bias towards communities located on the NICR (MILW, RI, WAB) lines, but those along the SOO/CN and GM&O appear "shut out".

Finally, kudos to the METRA "naming committee" for carefully, and I presume correctly, identifying the type of municipal corporate charter held by each community. That is much.better than the local grocery chain, Jewel/Osco, has done. In a "pitch" to show the connection of each store to its community, they have a "heritage" display of photos (much like the CUS MickeyD with railroads), but they identified each community as "City of...".

Local management seems aware (I'm certain I wasn't the only customer to address such), but to date no corrections. "Albertson's (corporate parent) management knows best (oh yeah?)".

F40C:

THANK YOU for the list of Metra's named locomotives. I was a little off on the numbers of the N&W Orland Park Line assigned units.

Another thought: Did Burlington Northern's E9s ever carry any names in this manner? GBN notes that only Downers Grove is named from the BNSF
Aurora Line - is there any plan to name any units for other points along that route?

Is there any information available about the persons that have had locomotives named for them such as Ernest L. Marsh?

I was wondering the same thing a few months back.
viewtopic.php?f=61&t=35147&start=15#p1371799

And a thread from years ago on the people's names. Maybe more info is available since then.

viewtopic.php?f=61&t=11941#p108633

On another note 423's conversion and overhaul work is complete and it is testing on the Rock. Its the first 400 done completly in house. They did a nice job on it. Though I noticed the RTA logos are absent on it.

My pleasure, I always had an interest in named locomotives. I guess those high school typing lessons paid off. By the way, you overlooked "145 - City of Aurora" from the "Q".

425

If anyone can confirm the current status of these locomotives, whether running, away for overhaul, out of service etc, I'd appreciate it a lot.
Just managed to pick-up the last of these units, 406 (with the exception of 184). 184 will have to wait til next visit when it's back from Progress Rail.
