That's basically what Steamboat was trying to say. I have never heard of a RR having air brake instructions for what notch to start off from a normal stop that MUST be adhered to. Usually it's more of a guide as train handling is up to the Engineers discretion. He was only trying to say it's improper to release the brakes then notch up to grab the train.

MN has mandatory train handling instructions, so has Amtrak for example.
add the GRFE instructions and the notch 1 or 2 goes out the window..

Currently CDOT 228 is being prepped for its trip to Erie and Altoona.

So that will leave 231 as the lone ranger of unrebuilt engines, right?

Well I believe 220 is still out at Erie but officially on the property yes CDOT 231 is the only non-rebuild left.

All rotating assemblies (main engine, generator, blowers, etc are changed out as well as software changed to make them Tier 0 emissions compliant. After that everything is given a nice shiny paintjob at Altoona by NS forces. It's basically a brand new locomotive inside and out.

The Genesis was tier 0 compliant when delivered, under EPA rules it stays tier 0 compliant till retired or if major changes are made to engine plant.
after overhaul the Genesis received a smaller turbo, why ?? only God and CMO knows, but it is still tier 0 compliant, but just a sh*tload slower !!
