No connection to the extra service North. There was three major mechanical failures South yesterday. And the weather created slippery rail causing everything to run late.

The Fitchburg Line was delayed again tonight (11/1). The delay started with Train 468, the 5:09 departure from South Acton. Onboard 468 was a "suspicious package" (actually a suspicious oversized suitcase based on radio communications). 468 was held at the South Acton station while the crew and Boston West discussed who was going to respond (MBTA Police or the Mass State Police Bomb Squad). In the meantime, Train 425, the "Superexpress" was held to the east of MP 25 and Train 427 was held behind 425. After about :30 minutes the Acton Fire Marshall cleared the scene without Mass State Police having to respond. 468 left South Acton eastbound shortly after that, which then allowed 425 and 427 to proceed west. Train 425 arrived in Fitchburg just after 6:30, about :35 mins late.

Endicott was the culprit, along with the 1119 and 7 loaded K cars....tough conditions to get pushing uphill while the rail is black with a light dew on it

In situations like that, what do they do, reverse and back up a bit and run at it again? Or are they even allowed to reverse much, especially when pushing?

You keep going and if you can't make it you put a qualified crew member (conductor) on the leading end and reverse far enough for you to get a good enough running start. That area is just 261 so you own the block that you are occupying. If you need more you would have to get verbal permission from dispatcher to go beyond the limits of the block. There are other small parts to the rule but that is the main part of it.

Looks like some sort of serious police activity on the Worcester line. P512 delayed an hour, bussing between Worcester and Grafton and p510 cancelled. Anyone know what happened?

Something going on on Rockburyport tonight? 181 left NS on track 10 instead on 2 and proceeded up the usual southbound track before crossing over after the Mystic River bridge.

EDIT: T-Alerts: "All trains significantly delayed due to police action." No delay here though. We're right on time, as have been all the inbounds we've passed.
