This thread reminds me of North Jersey back in 1984-85......except we used telephones. The topic usually was yea, NYS&W filled in the wash out at Smoke Rise.....the old NYSW and the L&HR where part of a trackage rights route that could only be used if the Haulage Agreement was cancelled........why in the world the NYSW spend all that money to open the west end when it is such a long route when they can use NJT.......they only run four stack trains a week.........you will never ever ever ever see Butler to Sparta reopened, you are living in dream land!!!

In 1986 I would find myself right smack dab in the middle of the project to reopen Sparta Mountain, and yes, at the time it was reopened it was for FOUR trains per week.:):)

Let's do just a little math for line viability sake. A 100 car SU-100 has probably 60 cars turning a buck. 60 cars at Average invoice for CNY portion is $2,000 per car. 60 cars X $2,000 = $120,000 gross for trip, less crew costs and percentage amortized expenses. Combining SU99/100. $120,000 X 5 (total train per week)= $600,000 per week. $31,200,000 gross. Who has the NYSW/CNY annual report? See if that falls in line.

Steve, I caught that...........in other words, he wants you guys on the east end to let him (and us) know when you see the freights.

I wonder how--and IF--this could affect the Metro-North commuter trains from Port Jervis into New Jersey?

It is probably true that something is coming, whether it be 13T or not, but it must be pointed out that waiting for NS to accomplish something is like waiting for a good candidate to run for president. You wait and wait and wait and it just never happens!!! So let us all keep that in mind as well!!

Heheheheh............If that's the case, I hope something comes before I'm pushing up daisies! :-)

Maybe the New Years gathering should be moved to the restaurant in the Bound Brook train station...

First off, when was the last 100 car SU-100? It has been quite some time. Second, why post these #'s without looking at a CNY/NYSW Annual Report? BTW, it is very hard to view a privately held companies annual reports unless you are an private investor. Just saying...

Bound Brook would work for me..........would give me a good reason to follow the roads along the old LV
from Sayre, Lehighton, Allentown on east! :-)

Since we are all full of speculation and hope here, let me add more fuel to the fire (pun is intentional).
There is talk on the NJ page about lots and lots of oil trains running from out west to NJ in 2014. One NJ refinery in the "chemical coast" area (near Newark airport and the NJ turnpike, more or less) supposedly ordered 2000 tank cars.
Sounds to me like good Tier traffic (and maybe even NYSW)!
