While news Googling "Pan Am Railways" for the latest updates, I encountered this excerpt from a Texas TV station KWTZ's web site:
On October 27, 1891—125 years ago today—a group of Boston investors chartered the Pan American Railway to connect Victoria with Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The city, eager to have an independent rail outlet, offered a $150,000 bonus to the new company and by August 1892, 10 miles of rail had been laid from Victoria to the Guadalupe River. The city, however, refused to pay any of the bonus until more track was put down. No regular trains ever used the line and the project was soon abandoned.Word on the street was the 10 miles of track that were laid had several 10 mph speedos.
