Hello,
Im looking to learn more about the first couple decades of the Central's existence but in looking for information, there seems to be nothing published really dealing with anything pre 1930s.
While I can find a lot of general knowledge regarding equiptment, practices, operations in the 1860s-1870s, specifics about the NYC seem nonexistent.
Does anyone know of any good books or photo collections?
Thanks.

Are you looking only for NYC&HR information? You might find some information in books of RRs that were merged or leased. Two books of that nature are:

The Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway by David McLellan & Bill Warwick

The Michigan Central Railroad - History of the Main Line 1846-1901 by Nicholas Marsh
