Cooler morning but still a bit hazy, so decided that errands can wait. Few new scenes..two new rail spurs done. 425 leading 420 out of Lakeville with 11 cars. Picked up 6 covered hoppers in Avon and this one caught me off guard, picked up an empty centerbeam from Genesee Supply or Reserve (?) on Jefferson Rd.
Looked like a State Trooper helicopter flying over in Avon, not a good shot of the hawk(at 40 mph, what do you expect) which just missed being hit by a cable truck as it took off from the field across Howletts Farm, made friends with a couple of dogs-one checking out the tracks after the train passed and the other more interested in what I was doing-. Just items that makes the chase more interesting.

Still plenty of ties in supply area so we'll have to keep our eyes open to see where the next project will be.

On another note, surprised no one made a comment about the July issue of Trains pages 24 and 25 of #17 in Dundon W. Va.

Enjoy! Just scan through thumbnail for anything new that might pop out at you.

BTW, what happened to the edit button? Wanted to correct my misspelling of problem in my last post...

The two new rail spurs. As they now have a four or five(?) ladder yard and this gives them more room to hold cars. The yard was full, Avon yard was pretty full until they picked up the 6 hoppers and there were a few cars parked at Papermill Rd. siding. This shows the new switch for the spur: http://picasaweb.google.com/alsorailfan ... 6584356482
And this shows the few cars at Papermill Rd. :http://picasaweb.google.com/alsorailfan ... 7178837346

Hopefully I got this right!

I'm hoping you can be more precise and indicate exactly where these new spurs are, as I can't seem to figure it out from what you have written.

Is this the Avon yard, or in Lakeville, or somewhere else? Is the picture you show at http://picasaweb.google.com/alsorailfan ... 6584356482 facing North or South?

Sandy,
Did you get some good shots when you were up here?

Charlie,

I did, but nothing extraordinary. Got the road train at all the usual places and later 418 switching in the yard. I had not been to Lakeville since the anniversary emblems were added to the motive power, so my objective was to update my collection showing that change.

Last Sunday I was returning to NJ from Ohio via the "Great Circle Route", namely the Southern Tier, and chased the Olean-Hornell Turn with 4264 and 426. 4264 is a real smoker when it has to work hard, like climbing Cuba Summit. I never saw it do that while it was on the M&E, but then it never had to work that hard either in NJ.
