Is there any place online where I can find a roster of the Green Mountains locomotive fleet. I did come across a link showing a photo of a Bay Colony RS-1 sitting in the North Walpole yard in sorry shape and it got my curiousity going. How many RS-1's did they own over the years, either as parts or power.

You can try typing in Green Mountain RR. and it should bring you to their site, or GMRR.
I know the RS-1 number 405 is ex-Rutland and the RS-1 #400 ex Gulf & Mobile is at the Danbury Rail Muesum.
Hope this helps Wess.

First, it should be said that there is no longer a specified "Green Mountain Railroad" locomotive roster anymore, as GMRR is now part of the Vermont Railway System and motive power between VTR, GMRR, and CLP is all pooled. GMRR locomotives however are still painted to distinquish themselves from VTR, etc. Do a search on <photos.nerail.org> and you can find a lot of nice pictures taken recently of the 405.

Over the years, GMRR has owned GP-9s and the two aforementioned RS-1s. I have a book at home which has a GMRR roster from the 1980s. I'll fetch it after work. It's called "Rails Beyond The Rutland" and follows the railroads (VTR/GMRC/CLP) in the post-Rutland years.

If you're wondering about web sites, they are:
VTRS site: www.vermontrailway.com
Psgr Excursion site: www.rails-vt.com

They also had 401 which is now up in the Catskills.

The Green Mt.RR also had a S-2 #303 which was sold a few years ago.
The RS-1 #405 is used alot on their fan trips & helping out on freight duty.
Its true they are part of a big family of other railroads but,in Bellow Falls the Green Mountain RR does alot under that name.

From "Rails Beyond the Rutland" (dated 1988), here was the GMRC roster:

305...Alco S-4.....Blt 1950 .... Ex D&H No 3050, acquired 1969
400...Alco RS-1...Blt 1948..... Ex-IT No 753, 1053, ex-GMO 1053, acqu '76
401...Alco RS-1...Blt 1950..... Ex-IT No 756, 1056, ex-GMO 1056, acqu '76
405...Alco RS-1...Blt 1951..... Ex-Rutland No 405, acquired April 1965
1849.EMD GP9....Blt 1955..... Ex-NP No 223, ex BN No 1949, acqu 1984
1850.EMD GP9....Blt 19--...... Ex-C&O No 8161, acqu Sept 1987

More detailed reference on the S-4 (s)

303 - S-4 ... Ex-D&H 3036 ... Acquired 5/66 ... Went to NEGS after traded in 1983 for GP-9 #1849

305 - S-4 ... Ex-D&H 3050, (leased to Bombardier as of book writing)

Ex-D&H 3026, bought as parts source, cut up for scrap

Vermont Railway over the years has also owned several RS-1s (5, of which 2 of Rutland heritage), plus 6 RS-3s and other motive power, none of which remains on the roster today.

Hope this info helps.

That may be why I didnt get anything specific on the Green Mountain. Everything kept coming up as VRS or individual galleries showing the Steamtown era.

The Green Mountain Railroad is part of the Vermont Rail System and has several locomotives painted in the GMRC green and yellow paint scheme. They do have two Alco's.

305 S-4 This locomotive was sold to the Bombadier Railcar Manufacturing Co. in Barre VT. This plant closed 2-3 years ago. In 2005, the GMRC purchased this locomotive from Bombarier. It is presently at the North Walpole Engine House getting some "updating". Reportedly, this loco will be assigned to the WACR (Washington County) Montpelier-Barre line to free up GP9 803 that spends most of its time there. The 305 will be renumbered back to its old D&H number of 3050, so as not to conflict with GP40 305.

405 RS-1 This original Rutland Locomotive is used mostly on GMRC passenger runs between Bellows Falls and Chester and special passenger moves on other parts of the VRS. Several years ago, it was updated with rebuilt trucks, modern MU compatable with other VRS locos, updated brake stand and a new paint job in 2004. It does fill in for freight duty occasionally and snowplowing.
