Wow, its like something straight out of a comedy, and there I was admiring the paintjob, funnily enough

Paint issue has nothing to do with the Mass Coastal. That lies with the contractor doing the work in Rochester. MC only delivers/picks up plus does acceptance testing on behalf of the MBTA/MDot at Rochester.

[OT] With these rebuilds and the post-coronavirus reduction in service, does the MBTA have enough engines? Are they going to order more? When will they have a shortage and panic? (and have to issue a no-bid contract)

NETransit says 85 active passenger locos as of October 19. Peak service requires 62 locomotives (40 south, 22 north).

those #'s are deceiving. For instant, the 3249 hasn't been fired up in a very long time, sitting dead at BET, always issues with it loading, and the 3248 barely runs as is. Only the 1st of the 3 "engines" are able to come online. Not all 40 of the HSP's are in service either. The GATX 2635 has been OOS for close to a year (Aux Gen N/G)

3248/3249 and the leased units are not counted in the list of passenger power on the NETransit page though.

I understand that. The point I was trying to make regarding the #'s being "flawed" is that the site shows them in service, like all 40 of the HSP's, and the various F40 #'s....in reality, they aren't all in Service Take a drive over to BET and check out all the power "sitting" around. We run with the required 60ish locos for the both sides, and rarely have a spare engine available when things go sideways for power

did we mention they screwed up the ACSES again?
(it's Mass Coastals fault)

Anyone have any ideas of what’s up with 1138 as of today? Did they start working on 1117, 1129, and 1130 listed as in shop? Also, I noticed that 1128 is getting overhauled at BET and 1131 is also in Rochester getting overhauled. Any info on these would be greatly appreciated.

the 1128 isn't being done at BET....was sent down on a Middleboro Extra 12/14 along with the 2011. There was a note stating that the 1128 is "going off property" so quite possible heading out on CSX. A note like that usually doesn't accompany units going down to MC at Area 52.

The 1138 came back on that MB xtra return trip. 1138 was on a test train today, but failed one of its tests, not sure if it was ACSES or ATC

So where would 1128 be heading to? Never heard of it going off property for anything. Did another railroad buy it perhaps or is rebuilding it? Seems odd since the other gp40s are being rebuilt either at BET or MC area 52.
