I was in Claremont on January 29. I explored the former row of the Claremont electric railway.

The last time I explored this part of the CC was in 1988.

The row from the present day Claremont yard to the Myrtle St overpass:

Old ties at the Myrtle St overpass:

Location of a C&C train that was on the cover of the Fall 1978 issue of New England States Limited:

The sidewalk to the left in this pic used to be the C&C tracks to West Claremont:

The row next to Rt 12:

Some original rail is still on the row:

A very short bridge still stands next to Rt 12:

The curved spur to the paper company at West Claremont can be seen at Bing maps. Look for the fresh blacktop.

New video on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhX7zYNj9ss" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Claremont & Concord was down to just a couple of miles of track in the early 1990's when the decision was made to abandon the street trackage that once belonged to the Claremont Electric.

In this old VHS video we ride a gondola down the CE from Electric Junction and then head back to Claremont Junction on the old Boston & Maine Claremont Branch in July of 1990.

The B&M section is still intact. The rest has been lost to history.

Just east of Claremont on Rt 12 (IIRC) was a KMart and in the parking lot was rails to Newport. It was sad to see it, but I loved walking the C&C when visiting ex's MIL.

Love the dude with the camera running by in the first scene.

eBay has numerous auctions right now with C&C prints/slides for sale.

This is my fave:

The B&M near McGuire Street in 1966 after switching the quarry:

The track is still in place here even though it was abandoned in 1984!

Others:

After the C&C stopped operating into Concord in 1960 due to a damaged trestle, the B&M started operating over this track again.

I was watching the movie "In Your Eyes" which is an independent film that was created by Joss Whedon of "The Avengers" fame. The film is set in and was filmed in New Hampshire, and the end features a scene where the two protagonists hop a freight train. The film crew used the Claremont and Concord Railroad, complete with Alco #102 prominently showed. I believe the trackage in the film is the line between Claremont Juntion and Claremont. It was neat to see a NH shortline used in a movie!

I wasn't aware of any activity past the Irving facility in the last 15 years.... I've gone over the route 10/4 bridge many times, and thought the rails were already gone there.

There are still sections in between there and Exit 17. They did remove the tracks over I89 this summer not sure if they took more on either side.
