I attended a couple of auctions in Brooktondale, NY this summer that were loaded with railroad memorabilia. At the last auction, we the attendees finally had access to the full property and I was able to view the two ex-Conrail cabooses on the property. I am not a knowledgeable enough railfan to identify the heritage of these units by sight but I am sure some of you can. The bay window has a number on it, the cupola one did not. They are...or were...for sale. I know there were a number of inquiries already during the auction. Removal will far exceed buying cost, I am sure.
Can anyone ID them? (Edit: Scot L. has identified the baywindow as ex-NYC and the cupola as ex-LV. Thanks Scot!)

I Googled "CR 21759" and came up with this:

ex-NYC 20287

plural of caboose.
one caboose, two cabeese. ;)
unofficial slang term, but been around for a long time, probably as old as cabeese themselves.

These were not part of the auction, a deal had to be made directly with the late owners daughters.

Yes, trucking them out is absolutely doable but it will be costly. The path into the woods will either need to be graveled or crane swamp mats brought in as the soil seemed very soft. Each caboose also had a section of track under it that will need to be moved as well.

Flying cabeese! I love it! I can't tell the orange ones, but the others appear to be Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville #1 and #2. Correct?

Here's #1 in real life: http://rrpicturearchives.net/archiveThu ... ?id=112535" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyone know where it wound up? (I assume it was part of the Rail City auction...)

... and here's #2 at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPictur ... id=4329258" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My understanding is it's not there any more. Disposition?
