Brand New 251's

Just for the fun of it I checked the US Government (DOD) files for the price on a 16 cylinder 251. It's $918,892.00. Normally the price in file is the last procurement price. Since the record was set up by the Navy, I assume it was for the aux generators on the amphibious assault ships. Probably in the ball park price-wise if you were to buy a quantity of one.

Would be very hard to make that cost effective. You could buy 10 used ALCO locomotives for that.

A better choice would be to replace the (ancient design) Alco turbocharger with an aftermarket item such as Hispano Suiza.
