The Texas Eagle is getting its SSL back.
When?
From the posted pdf:
Currently planned equipment restorations on existing Long Distance routes within the Five-Year Plan timeframe include:
• Restoring a Viewliner II dining car to the Crescent in Q4 FY24.
• Restoring a Superliner sightseer lounge car to the Texas Eagle beginning in Q1 FY25.
• Operating a transition sleeper on all Superliner long distance routes except the Auto Train by Q1 FY26.
• Addition of coaches and sleeping cars on routes throughout our long-distance network with the highest passenger demand and revenue potential

Golly, another almost full year without one.

Most of the VL's looked like they were on shop trucks. Is there a problem, or are they just going thru regular overhauls already?

If Amtrak does not have enough SSLs to cover the TE (they plan on adding SSLs to the TE before the end of this year and I think that requires 4 or 5 SSLs), but has an SSL (or two or three) available, why is using the already rebuilt SSLs as count fillers any more wasteful than using a baggage car while waiting for more SSLs to be rebuilt?
