1 day, the Cajon Pass

If you had about 5-6 hours (not including the drive) to railfan the cajon pass, what are the must sees of it? The more legal they are to get too the better, and easier, I will have a rental car and it wont be 4 wheel.

If you have access to back copies of Trains, Mr. Primrose, one issue in the mid-1970's was devoted almost entirely to Cajon, with detailed local maps that showed highway access. This was printed after both the completion of the SP Palmdale/Colton Cutoff and the relocation of the UP/ATSF trackage that included the former Summit train order office.

I'm fairly sure the issue was published sometime between January, 1974 and June, 1975..........have a ball!

I went, I actually went twice. It is really incredible. That windy road (CA-166, 136, something like that) that goes up to Silverlake has some real good views, and you dont need to use the maintainers roads at all. That's what scared me about the guide was the idea of using the maintainers roads.
