How long does a J train take to pass through the willamsburg bridge from brooklyn to manhattan and also how it compare with the d train counterpart on the Manhattan Bridge?

It seems pretty much about the same. They are both slow.

As arrow notes: "They are both slow". Twas ever thus.

I first rode across "Willy" way back in the '50's as a callow youth. Then later in the '60's and early '70's as a daily commuter. The ride has to be the best scenic bargain in New York, aside from the ferrys.

I don't know about the Manhattan, but they got it right on "Willy", when they put the tracks in the middle of the bridge rather than on the outsides to reduce lateral sway.

If you can, find a video of The Naked City. The final scenes of the film take place on the bridge and include a BMT train passing over.

Ah, the old days.
Best regards,
Rodger

Don't ride over the W very much and have never timed it. Can say from long experience that Manhattan Bridge crossing is now much faster with the recent completion of the bridge reinforcement project (called the "torque tube").
