Last Thursday (5-18-06), while riding on a morning train on the NEC to NYP, I caught an unusual, 3-car trainset heading towards JSQ on the inbound track right before the PATH ROW diverges from the NEC. While the speed is 55 on this stretch, it was moving rather slowly, maybe 30 or less. I believe they were all PA-4's IIRC. There were riders on the train.

Any knowledge on this 'mystery' train? Why did it only have 3 cars?

The riders didn't seem to be in 'train personnel or construction attire.'

Thanks for your help.

F40: Some of the PA-1 and 2 cars are 100 series blind ends-a 3-car train is entirely possible and I have ridden them in the past. This explains to all why PATH ran 7-car trains on many lines for some time. They may run short trains only late at night-is this still done? PATH is too busy usually for such short trains.
