To our Green Line customers,

At 8:12am, an inbound train on approach to Navy Yard Station reported that the coupler between the second and third railcars had disengaged. The train came to a safe and complete stop, and the train operator conducted an inspection. The separation between the two affected cars was approximately 18 inches. The rail cars were recoupled, and the train moved a short distance into Navy Yard Station where passengers transferred to another train. There were no injuries, and the affected train was taken out of service for inspection and investigation.

During the time that the train was disabled, other Green Line trains were single tracked around the incident between Anacostia and Navy Yard stations. This caused delays up to 20 minutes for many riders until about 8:50 a.m. when two-track service was restored.

Metro apologizes for any inconvenience you experienced as a result of this incident. The results of the investigation will be released publicly at an upcoming meeting of the Metro Board Safety Committee.
