The past few weeks most of the trains have been delayed by "high water/temporary track conditions."
Anybody know what's going on?

So far, this May has been the wettest May in the Chicago area since records have been kept. And we still have a few days to go. So, I imagine the South Shore has had some flooding problems.

Norfolk Southern's main line has been flood affected near MP 500 (where the CN/EJ&E crosses over near Gary Airport) for about a week. Trains passing at walking speed with one track out of commission and the others showing permanent occupancy. There are places along the South Shore that get flooded.

That NS flood has got to be murdering the Detroit trains, if they're still running. I have a customer behind Kirk Yard, which means using Clark Road or Buchanan street. Clark Road is flooded on a good day. Buchanan is usually just ankle deep (not accounting for another 6" of pothole if you can see them through the sludge).

I do not enjoy going back there without a pickup truck.

As in it goes over the railroad now? At least one reliably dry route into that complex is necessary, as the employment numbers and infrastructure resources back there are tremendous. USS, CN, Olympic Steel, few more...

There is an overpass at the casino to the west where one can wind through the back roads and reach the north side of Clark Rd (North of CN). A very confusing path if one is not familar and does not have GPS to help. Clark Rd itself runs east of the airport crossing the loop for the CN City Line (now operated by CSS east of the yard) and the double track main of CSX and the triple track main of NS and several yard tracks in Pine Yard at grade crossings then going into the eternally flooded viaduct under the EJ&E. There is a private crossing to the east (usually behind a locked gate) where oversized trucks can go over the tracks.

The stretch that crosses the three major railroads will be replaced by a new overpass. Which will be great for through traffic. Not so good for the few hearty rail fans that like to park between CSX and NS and watch a lot of trains go by.
