Norfolk southern dumps cars off Rockville Bridge

Apparently a Norfolk Southern stack train derailed as it crossed the Rockville Bridge near Harrisburg this afternoon. Crews are on the way.

2 Containers blew off the train and into the Susquehanna River.

They got everything back up on about 11:00 today. Good work by the crews who do this almost every day.

I worked the clean up and god damn was it windy as a bastard (and cold too). Several hard hats became casualties of the wind (mine included). We had to leave two containers in the river for now, but all in all, the clean up went as good as can be.

Wow! I saw that NS confirmed that the gust of wind did this. Never knew a storm gust not related to a tornado/hurricane could do this. Hats off to the poor people who had to clean that mess up in the river too. I don't even want to know how challenging it must have been.

I remember an incident back in the late 1990's where strong winds blew some road-railers into the bay not far from Sandusky, Ohio on the Chicago Line during the last months of Conrail.

I saw the two containers in the river yesterday. Other than that, it was business as normal in Rockville... except maybe for longer Container and Trailer trains.
