Hi all!..going to be in Lowell in 25 Feb 2017 and wondering if worth sneaking out to see ANY freight movement through Lowell? If there is any, I could use some help as I;m just there for the day. It's a Saturday. Any traffic on Satudays? Where would be best place to view? time of day? etc. etc. Thanks for any help. Tommy

POSE and SEPO should both be through the Lowell area around midday, but there's no actual schedule. There's also currently a large number of gondolas around as that is where LOSA originates with empties and terminates with loads -- sometimes a couple round trips a day, but the times haven't been very consistent.

Dunno how you're equipped, but a scanner wouldn't hurt, nor would some preemptive Google Earth surfing/reconning with layers enabled. Lowell definitely isn't the stereotype of the South Bronx in the 70s, but taking your Lynn situational awareness along for the trip wouldn't be bad, either.

Other than a astronomical amount of dirt, paying big dividends to the railroads not much. It is refreshing to see just a bunch of old 1/2 hoppers cars filled with dirt siding everywhere one day and then there gone! Rumor has it some casino hot shot needs it to disappear. Funny some of these half cans still got their B&M logo and are half full. Then there are the larger 3/4 hoppers wit the fancy white covers all strapped down and secure. EIMSKIP has grown steadily the last few years. I see more and more container freight coming through Wiggenville on a yearly basis. I have a great admiration for the railroads.

This link is provided in the FAQ thread at top of page. I believe it is still relatively accurate.
