Does anyone know the status of the GE Dash 7 fleet at CSX? Specifically:

1) Are the ex Conrail C36-7 units still in service? If no, where are they stored?

2) Were the ex Conrail C36-7 units down rated to 3,000 hP? Was this an engine modification or just a timetable tonnage rating adjustment?

3) What other models of GE Dash 7 units remain in service on CSX and how many of each?

Thanks!

Most of the former Conrail C36-7's are still in service though a few have been retired. Atleast 3 units have gone to the Ohio Central, #7131, 7133 and 7137 if I remember numbers correctly.
The units have been derated to 3000hp by adjusting the fuel rack settings.
Besides the former Conrail C36-7's, there should still be 2 or 3 C30-7's left, as well as a fairly decent number of both B30-7's and B36-7's. All of these units are living on borrowed time though and are being retired as they suffer major failures.

Well, a rough estimate of the current status of the B - 7 units is as follows:

B30-7 = 40 - 50 +/-

B36-7 = 70 - 75 +/-

These units are starting to be taken out of service at an increasing rate.

There are between 20 - 30 B-7 units in CSX's Waycross, GA deadline that are serving as "parts shops" for use in fixing wounded units, since the Shop handles GE unit repairs.

Most, if not all of the C - 7 units that I have seen over the past year have been assigned to unit ballast trains and similar assignments.

B30 and B36 units are still being used in general freight assignments, but are not being assigned to intermodal or hotshot freight trains. The B36 units have also been assigned to yard and local switching work.

A year or so ago, about 20 of the C30-7 units were dismantled at the Waycross, GA shops, with about everything of potential use and value being extracted, with anything that was broken being left on the frames. The frames + junk were sold for scrap.

Bullsheet says all the C30/36-7's are off the roster. The only-7's left are the B30/36-7's. The last unit smoking was 7059.
