Continuing on from Part 1, of my series of photographs from the Strasburg Rail Road, in Pennsylvania.

I arrived in Strasburg on the afternoon of Friday 4th August. However, it would be the 5th of August where I would spend majority of the day riding on the Strasburg Rail Road, as well as visit other railroad attractions in the town.

Cabride on #90

Having introduced myself the afternoon before, the crew aboard #90 cordially invited me for a footplate ride on the locomotive for majority of the day! I won't discuss also what 'work' they conscripted me to do in order to 'earn' my cabrides

My thanks go to Engineer Brad Robinson, and Fireman Dr Andrew 'Andy' Sellers for the opportunity!

So in a nutshell, some of my most memorably experiences of all my railway travels have all come from Strasburg.

I am very glad you had a good time down in Strasburg. The people that work there are really first class. And thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Nice photos as always, Maikha...I hope to visit the Strasburg if I get to visit the US next year.

Nick. Thanks for that! How far out of the Wilkes Barre city centre are you? On my way to Steamtown in Scranton, I had the fate of having to stop there for about 3-4hrs (Loooong story!) and discovered a few spurs and an old depot to occupy my time. However, I couldn't find the model train shop as much as I tried! http://gallerymaikha.photoblog.me.uk/c1039281.html

Grantham.... looks like everyone is following me to the US.

See you at Steam Up

I am about four blocks from that station. It used to be a pretty happening place. The station was a nightclub and most of the lot behind it was a yard in which numerous former DL&W MU cars were turned into hotel rooms. Stayed there a few times while railfanning and exploring the remains of the mining industry. The Amtrak stainless steel car used to serve as extra seating for the Joe Palooka Diner. The track through town has become fairly active of late as I hear horns much more often than last year. That line is used for general freight and special high and wide loads made in the next town which are used for refining oil.

Of course I wish the line that is now the street in front of the station was still in service and carrying passengers into New Jersey as that line eventually runs through my other location, Cranford. Some good photos of the area from the past can be found

I probably met you without knowing it over your vacation as I was living and working at the museum in Strasburg at the time. (That's how I know the crews are pretty friendly. I saw them just about every day for the better part of four months.)
