Does anyone know where I can find a track planning software for the Apple Macintosh, preferably one that is either OS X or OS 9 compatable?

It will be much easier (and likely) for you to find a Windows-compatible track planning program, and run it on your Mac using a "virtual PC" environment like SoftWindows or VirtualPC or whatever is OSX compatible.

As a Mac owner myself, I find that often this is the only way to find niche-market software, since the Mac market is so small that it is very difficult for a niche-market software company to profitably make a Mac version.

I discovered this (ancient) thread during a search while planning a new model train layout and took a moment to update in case someone else (like myself) stumbles across it at some point in the future. I haven't tried either yet, so this isn't a recommendation.

Two OS X track planning software packages are:

Rail Modeller ( http://www.railmodeller.com/ )
shareware, USD $49 to register
version 4.0 current in January 2010

Empire Express ( http://www.haddonsoftware.com/index.html )
shareware, USD $34.95 to register
version 2.0.1 current in January 2010

Cheers
