Hudson, NY local?

Can some one tell me about operations at Hudson, NY? I see a spur that winds east from the CSX mainline into Hudson and ends at ADM Milling. When do they normally operate, is it only covered hoppers, and did the line ever serve other customers?

This line was originally a B&A route that connected to a car ferry that provided interchange between the B&A and the NYWS&B. The east end beyond Claverack met the Harlem Div. at Ghent and had a paired track arrangement to Chatham.

When the line was abandoned east of Claverack, ADM eventually bought the old cement plant and converted it into a grain facility. We handled unit grain trains, usually about 67 cars and had the problem of running the loads uphill to ADM. 5 4-packs could handle about 22 loads with plenty of sand and dry rail. In addition to the hill, there was a couple of blocks of street running through town.

There were a couple of other consignees in Hudson. Also, there was an NYC&HR branch that went SE up the hill to another cement plant, but that was abandoned c. late 1960's IIRC..

Is there a local out of Selkirk that goes down the Castleton Sub?

You can see from Google there were a few small customers in Clavarack before the line was cut back to ADM. Beyond there it's untraceable on the satellite imagery although the Harlem Div. line can be followed down from and a stub of it remains in Chatham, appears there's even a depot.

Believe there is a local based right there in Hudson, power parked there on the satellite imagery, but to go to the mill is probably as needed depending on their needs and unit trains may even be seasonal.
