Funny thing about it- I waited for it in New Providence and when it came blasting through going west so as to make its meet on time with the NJT train at Murray Hill, it sounded like the GP40-2 might have been having problems. It almost sounded like firecrackers going off.
That was probably bad contacts in the traction motors or someone throwing firecrakers at you.

There were upwards of 10(!!) covered hoppers at NYK logistics this morning!!

The track at NYK is pretty long, so it can hold alot of cars.

On the H-02 front, haven't seen him in a few days, just a timing thing I guess. Anyone know where they are today?

My guess is today would have been a Washington Day.

This post is rather late, but I thought I would comment on H0-2 last night. He went flying through Denville (westbound) at approx. 6:40 PM with the 3054 in the lead and 11 cars. Most looked like Dietrich box cars with one chemical tanker?! Anyone know where it came from?? It could not have been from Drakes.

They came down to Reheis today- same consist as the past few weeks.

Just a report: H0-2 did work today. He came into Washington this morning at around 11:00 A.M with about 30 cars. Mostly covered hoppers and box cars. Same power.

I wish I had known that. I would have went down to the crossing in hackettstown to watch them go by.. Oh well.

I would have thought they would have been off today. Well, I guess they needed to keep up.

The NS H-02 traded in the 5638 for an ex-Lehigh Valley GP38AC #310, now NS GP38-2 #5655 at Washington yard this morning.

So, they still got the 3054. They've had that one for a while. Well, with the tons of GP38-2 rebuilds recently, they need to have at least one "old style" GP38-2 or 40-2 or whatever so that they can do Reheis with the wires in Summit with the problem of the rebuild 38-2s and 38-3's horns not having enough clearance for the wires there.

Nick,

A few years after the NS takeover of Conrail I remember seeing a B40-8 fly past me at Convent Station. I don't know if he went all the way down to Summit, but it is possible. I don't know the height or width of those engines, but they must be similar or taller then the rebuilt GP38-3's. So I don't know how true that is about the rebuilds not clearing the wires in Summit.
