OK, I got the current issue of Railpace yesterday, and there is a short blurb on page 46 which says this about the WNYP:

There is also word that the new president of the railroad is favoring the use of EMDs over Alco power; so far three SD40-2s are on the property from Helm Leasing, including SD40-2 6320 and 6084, as well as at least one NS GP38-2. The railroad was also approached for leasing the EMLX SD90MACs, but no decision has yet been made on this. More Alcos are expected to arrive in the future and likely will be on the property once the new shop is built.

Huh??? That article seriously contradicts itself. Are the EMDs here to stay, or not? Just curious...

Railpace probably read it in a forum somewhere, like here, and posted the blurb. It didn't read like anyone was interviewed. Journalistic slack.

Snailpace is known for that to...

And yet no one has yet disproved any of the information either.

And we do know, at least for now, the WNY&P is currently a EMD dominated railroad with no less that five SD's in service.

Time will tell. (Unless someone wants to speak on behalf of the railroad..?)

Historically = ALCO

Currently 1 = ALCO - plenty in service, plenty waiting to be put in service
Mr. Blabey, Mr. Burt, the mechanical department, etc. are
ALCO positive, Mr. Collard has worked with both EMD and ALCO.

Currently 2 = 5 leased EMD's. probably a necessity until enough units can be made serviceable. I doubt they would buy and lease as many ALCO units as they have, if they planned on going EMD.

Mr. Blabey periodically posts to this forum and answers questions as he sees fit. Perhaps he will interject here with motive power plans.

The SDs are on the property until the six-axle Alcos can be made ready and their reliability in heavy grade service can be established.

Thank you, as always, for setting the record straight.

Can't beat or question that info.

Ditto Matt's comment, thanks for facts.

Ahhh, nothing like stalling on the hill after junk power blows up. Tune 'em up good! At least the WNYP doesn't take much over. Those ML411's and coal trains were always a bit nerve racking.

Agreed. Hopefully the WNY&P will have the Alcos in service quicky and be rid of the junkers soon.

That was easy. Just ask and yee may have an answer. Certain questions don't have answers that give away trade or business secrets and plans.

Thank you Bill.

Will be taking the six axle trucks off of the SD45s and putting them under the RPPX units in Falconer. Transplanting the prime movers to make them C645s. A regular Frankenstein on rails! LMAO
Funny you speak such unit...Image
I got bored and mashed the 2 together. Thats what i produced!
it was made from a C628 and a SD45 :D
Enjoy.
