The pallets could be palletized higher per pallet for railcars than for trucks, therefore the railcar could handle much more, as the gross weight limit is higher. The balancing of loads is insane in some cases, and they can make frieght movement difficult. When you have DOT camped out on State Route 390 and Rt 81 on almost a fulltime basis, bending the rules is not an option and just another reason for railcar transportation of outgoing product.

Don't forget to subtract the empty weight of the freight car from the maximum number...that 286,000, for example, is the total gross weight of the car and lading.

Then you can divide by whatever you want. :wink:
