Anyone know how many yard jobs they run and what there symbols are because one time I heard the train out on the pier and the dispacher was calling them Earle 6 but that was the engine?
Also do the trains run on Saturdays and Sundays?

Somewhat unusual for a Saturday, the train ran to Leonardo today. He was working the pier this afternoon.

I heard the train on Thursday as well I believe it was. I hadn't heard it for a few weeks, but have over teh past few days. The engineer LOVES using the horn, and the horns sound great on those locos. Must have had a pretty heavy load going South from Leonardo to Colts Neck as I could hear those switches screaming.

For those of who have never been on Normandy Road, there are some pretty decent grades for the trains to deal with over its journey from Leonardo to Colts Neck. Those locos get a work out.

Are there any parts of Normandy Road that are open to the public?

Pretty sure thats a negative. It's a navy only access road, and as I remember I believe Jtgshu said that they have a police escort as the train goes out to the pier.

Normandy Road is not a public road, and driving on it will get you an MP escort and questioning in record time........

The there only one area that I can think of where its accessible and visible for a good distance, adn thats where East Road/Sleepy Hollow Road parallel the tracks for about a mile in the Middletown area. Also, the driveway for Middletown South parallels the tracks for a little bit as well as the campus of Middletown South HS. There are also a few residental streets that might back up to it, or parallel it for a short distance, but nothing noteworthy that I can think of....

From what I have observed over the years, the train is escorted often, and seemingly when its loads. Empty boxcars probably aren't a big terrorist threat, but the thing is, its not always loads to the ships and emptys out....it does go the other way as well. any train could be loads or emptys.

Seems like the best thing to do is just happen to catch it. Chasing it probably isn't a good idea, and trespassing is most DEFINITELY not a good idea......
