Thursday morning trying to exit 128 onto the Pike/Route 30/Recreation road exit around 8:30AM, there were state police holding up traffic as ahead of me in the distance I could see a Green Line train on a flatbed slowly rolling down the ramp. It got on the Pike exit (I was going to 30) and after I took my left on Route 30 towards Weston, the train was stopped on the Pike ramp to my left, silhouetted against the sky. Would have made a great photograph.

It's the new GLX II to Framingham  (actually not a bad idea)

And then there were four: 3680, 3686, 3687, and 3692 are the last units left in the original paint scheme.

Might as well start tracking them, because that scheme will be extinct within a couple months.

At 9:44am shrink-wrapped Type 7 was passing east through area of former MassPike toll booth at Stockbridge on gooseneck trailer with fore and aft flashing blue lights courtesy of Mass State Police.

Noticed in a photo in the latest Roll Sign magazine that shows 3651 came back from overhaul sporting a new style of pantograph, with a single upper arm rather than the double upper arm design that all Type 7s (and all Boeings and Type 8s too) were equipped with. From what I have been able to see the few times I've tried to pay attention and look, I think there may be more than one car with the new design panto, but it's not something that is being universally applied to all of the overhauled cars because there are overhauled cars which still have the old pantograph. The new ones are different and kind of cool looking, and they make an overhauled car look even more like it's brand new instead of just a nicely repainted 30 year old one.

3685 has it too. I recently saw the new pantograph on it.

3605 was the first one I noticed with one and it seems all cars since then have come back with them. Earlier rebuilds have the old pans.

You'd be hard pressed to see 0622/0623's pans again but they have one of each type, and going by pictures it looks like they ran that way for a long time.

Another shrink wrapped rebuild arrived Riverside yesterday - gooseneck trailer truck was passing over Rte 128 on Grove St with police escort at about 1:30pm.

Only 3 more original green type 7s to go. 3680 is now prep to ship. 3686, 3687, and 3692 are the only ones that remain.

The 50th rebuild just entered service. We're 3 returnees away from the halfway point of the entire 106-car contract, and only 16 non-rebuilt 3600's remain in active service (holding steady at 3 remaining in original paint job).

Got a couple of crappy cell phone grab shots of 3686 at Park Street last week, just for nostalgia's sake. Way overdue for a new paint job, that's for sure.

I'm so glad 3686 is one of the last to go with its green sign box.

And then there were two.

3686 has a 50/50 chance of being the last Leprosy-liner in service.

The program passed the asbsolute halfway point sometime in the last two weeks!

55 active rebuilds today
vs.
24 active non-rebuilds (11 3600's + 13 3700's) + 20 OOS for rebuild (19 3600's + 1 3700) + 4 stored wrecks (1 3600 + 3 3700's) to be rebuilt and returned to service = 48 cars (31 3600's + 17 3700's) yet to be rebuilt

+8 remaining wrecks (5 3600's + 3 3700's) to be scrapped for parts = 111 presently rostered 3600's & 3700's

3686 and 3692 still hanging tough in the original paint job, as the last few Alstom departees have been drained from the new paint job (only 3 active new-paint non-rebuilds left). 6 active puke-teal 3600's left.
