Route 100 & R5 Photos

LIRR was having a lot of troubles yesterday. They have a similar 3rd rail setup to the Route 100. What does SEPTA when there's a Route 100 trolley stuck because of ice on the 3rd rail? Do they have a diesel that can tow it?

SEPTA was useless early Sunday morning. Well, the 102 was. And customer service, and the website, and Richard Maloney on TV. First outbound trolleys left 69th st at 7:30 per a SEPTA employee on the 109 (the bus was close to on time, amazingly). Over 2 hours late getting the line running is really not helpful for those of us trying to get to work.

They did a terrible job with snow removal too. This afternoon the islands along Girard Ave were still covered with snow, as was the Girard MFL platform. Forrest Hills Station hadn't even been shoveled as of 2PM Sunday afternoon.

And today at Market East, the automated PA was saying trains were running with up to 1 hour delays, and "further information will be announced as it becomes available"

I'll bet those responsble for the 101 & 102 wish they still had a few of the old two man Red Arrow Center Door Cars. Use of those cars during snowstorms was one way that the Red Arrow kept those two routes open even after the bulk of service was being provided by the lower riding Brilliners and St. Louies.

There are people responsible for stuff at SEPTA?

Elm street station yesterday morning had only one of the elm street driveways plowed open and about 20 spaces unuseable because they were snow covered.

SEPTA is such a mess, and this snowstorm further proves it. Apparently the Silverliner's suffer from serious design flaws in snow, the Rt 15 was poorly rebuilt, and there's no preperation (i.e. plows for the Rt 100) for when things go awry.

Did anyone notice how well the subway surface trolleys did, as opposed to the Rt 102 and 15?

I'm waiting to see the day when we get a snowstorm that shuts down the Broad Street Subway. Don't put it past them.

Acela was running at over 100mph in the snow. :)

Funny how Amtrak, NS, CSX never seem to have problems, but SEPTA always fails because of poor equipment, maintenance, etc....

The 15 officially failed on Sunday morning because of problems with ice buildup on the overhead. No one bothered to put any ice chippers on the poles of any of the cars, so when one car finally lost contact because of ice, they just abandonded it there....maybe till the sun came out and melted it.

The R5 inbound was having up to 30 minute delays at 6:00 PM today. Since the trains run every 30 minutes, they were coming at random times. The announcement at the station said it was to do with Amtrak's rails.
