Another photo not as zoomed, with the epicenter fenced off with orange construction-style fencing in the background. It had to be like an almost-horizontal flame thrower across the lawn towards the dwellings. One report said 1 dead and 7 unaccounted for. NS hyrail truck in background is on the rail.

KY gas line rupture, NS involved?

Caught a picture of the epicenter of the 30 inch gas line rupture that happened around 1:30 am 8-1-19 near Junction City, KY along the CNOTP. From the looks of things the gas shot out of the ruptured line almost perpendicular to the tracks, with the base of the breach right near the NS track structu...

A jeep 4-wheeling along the ROW in the Mukilteo/Edmonds WA area got hung up on the tracks and an approaching talgo got stopped with just feet to spare. While the cops dealt with the morons and waited for the wrecker, the train simply backed up and took the other main around the jeep. https://www.kin...

Evidently the miners of the Blackjewel Coal operation that went dark overnight idling 2 powder river mines and a couple of mines in eastern Kentucky have taken to blockading the tracks to keep a train of stockpiled coal from leaving until they get their back pay, https://www.wjhl.com/news/regional/n...

If you have FB, join southern tier railfanning and you would be keep on top of current operating... Naw, I think when you have a niche hobby and are seeking info on niche area operations, places like this seem to be a better fit to host that discussion than the bloated, oversharing, arab spring-ins...

Portable ditch lights

I saw CSX 8055 recently, and noticed that the rear ditch lights were not permanently mounted but seemed to be magnetically stuck on and powered by a thin looking wire that ran into an MU-style receptacle. When I saw it, 8055 was rear coupled to another SD40-2 and the "power plug" MU thingy...

They may not mind it but you always run the risk of confusing a crew into thinking you are someone in authority, who will be required to wear one, and who maybe out performing efficiency tests. Personally, I would not wear one, unless its deer season and I'm out shooting fall colors track-side far a...

NS has been having problems in the Chicago area with intermodal trailer break-ins and theft of goods. So they were trying to run a sting in the neighborhoods around Englewood where the police fake an arrest of a truck driver, and haul him off and leave the truck on the side of the road, where other ...

I was reading in a Pennsy book how back in the mid-60s both NYC and PRR shared some coal traffic off the L&N in Cincinnati that was destined to US Steel Gary Works. When the PRR moved the coal it was brought to Undercliff yard via a transfer from DeCoursey, and from Undercliff the PRR routed it ...
