It's better to keep the SPG Line a diesel operation. Yes, the Genesis units have poor acceleration but look at the bright side-the stations are not super close to each other-not like where I live in Montclair, NJ. Of course, the ridership on the 470 series trains was dismal because of the trackwork...

Re: Amtrak to overhaul 12 CDOT P40DC's

I'm praying the poor P40s get a new paint job rather than someone throwing a Connecticut Commuter Rail sticker on them.

Although the discussion of the Constitution Liners is old and off-topic, I'd like to add that I saw them today, there were 10-12 of them on Track 6.

Electrifying the NHHS corridor would be a COMPLETE waste of time and money. EMUs would be totally useless with most of the stops 10+ minutes apart, (Windsor-Windsor Locks and Wallingford-Meriden are exceptions) not to mention if the M8s were used, the service would be a lot slower because the M8s ma...

I apologize; I was thinking the LSL uses superliners, which would not fit.

Edit: I did catch a couple of Amtraks in GCT today.

Amtrak is doing track work along the Empire Connection, so all Amtrak trains from Albany and beyond will be heading into Grand Central. However, due to clearance issues, the Lake Shore Limited (which uses bi-level coaches) is not able to go into Grand Central, so the Lake Shore Limited will be limit...

Is CDOT planning to keep one of the GP-40s in the NH livery? When the normal public sees those black locos and horrid MBBs, they will be turned off right then and there.

Will Amtrak be offering free rides on the Opening Weekend too?

CRISIS AVERTED!!!

The new budget for Connecticut keeps SLE/Branch line service around (for the time being) with no fare hikes whatsoever! Those of us who rely on those lines, or love to railfan them, can breathe easy.

The New Haven mainline certainly isn't rural! :-D In fact, it goes through multiple major residental/job centers. (NYc, New Rochelle, Stamford, Norwalk, Bridgeport, and New Haven)

There are plenty of transportation-related issues that I understand, but why CDOT is steamrolling on with the NHHS Rail Program isn't one of them. While they try to cut off-peak and weekend service everywhere else in the state except for the New Haven Line, the NHHS corridor is just getting more tra...

ConnDot should blame Malloy more than anybody else. Thanks to Malloy, the STF is drying up. Amtrak didn't do that.

I've seen. They want to do the same thing with SLE, which I frequently use.

Loco 6694+Hartford Line testing

I am dying to see the Hartford Line MBBs in action along with GP-40 6694. Does anyone know when the MBBS will be tested, and when 6694 will be being used for SLE?

I'd like new dual-mode locos for the Danbury and Waterbury branches (and SLE if they can't get M8s) with a side of more service to GCT instead of fries and service cuts. :P
