Where is the best spot to shoot the Starucca Viaduct?

Hi all, I was wondering where would be the best spot from which to shoot the Starucca Viaduct. I know that you don't get a lot of trains over the Viaduct in daylight anymore, but I am going to be in the general vicinity for Memorial Day weekend and I might run up there to see what I can see. It'll o...

It must have been the Q004 that passed my house I'd say around 5:00-5:30 Am then. I wish I could give a specific time, but I was out cold and only heard it. It was certainly much longer than the standard NYSW trains that go by. So I'm guessing that must have been it. That one (Q004) made it here muc...

Q156 went past old Wortendyke Station in Midland Park NJ at just about 6:20 this (Mon.) morning.

The Yellowjacket SD60s are pretty much exclusively what I've seen go by my house.

Pictures of NYS&W in Edgewater

Can anyone point me to a good resource for photos of the old NYS&W facilities in Edgewater (and on that end of the Edgewater tunnel in general?) I have recently gotten the NYSW books by Edward Kaminski and John Krause/Ed Crist. There are a few pics in those, but I am looking for more sort of pan...

Bored at work today and started reading this string. Big fan of The Allmans, sad to see this had to happen. Gregg Allman has seen more than his share of bad things go down. What's worse is that it seems that the poor girl died because instead of running she paused to worry about the film crew's expe...

Yeah no question that's the same place. Wow. Google Earth. Awesome. And yet kinda unnervingly freaky at the same time.

M&E to Honesdale PA?

Is it still physically possible for the M&E to get from Morristown to Honesdale? If so, how would you do it? I guess you must have to use the tracks that hug the Delaware River and then the Lackawaxen through Hawley and up into Honesdale? I was in Honesdale and Hawley today and I was trying to f...

Delaware Otsego coach in a guy's backyard

I spent the weekend up in NE Pennsylvania. The wife is traveling so it's much easier for me to entertain the odd whims that populate my mind, so on my way home I decided to pass by this guy's house down in Honesdale who had a truck I was interested in a couple years ago, just to see if he still had ...

The Quiet Guy and the Loud Guy

It seems that the NYS&W has been a little busier than usual over the last few days, especially at night or early in the morning, and that made me think of something I've been meaning to ask about. How many engineers work for the Susquehanna? Having a house quite near the tracks, I've noticed tha...

SU-100 is Tu-Th-Sa. It goes by my house in Wyckoff NJ around 3:00-3:15 AM. I believe the SU-100 may have been on Sunday rather than Saturday this past weekend though, because a LONG train went by around that time Sunday morning. I wish I had seen it; it seemed like it took 15 minutes for it to go by...

Re: NYS&W SD40s & SD40Ts

It was 3022. I saw it down in Ridgefield this afternoon while on lunch from work (it does have the angled long hood end) and it just went by my house again about 30 minutes ago with 4 or 5 cars. I still say the horn sounded different - even compared to what I just heard.

Freight lines operating in Liberty, NY area in early 70s

Hi all - I am curious what railroads would have had freight operations running in the area of Liberty NY (lets say within 10-20 mile radius) in the early 70s? I am trying to find some kind of news article or other confirmation of a freight train derailment in the Liberty NY area some time after 1971...

I thought as much about the 3040; I didn't think it could have made it down here. I guess 3022 is a very likely candidate if it has the angled long hood. Aside from the SD-60s that's the most common yellowjacket I see go by here. This thing just didn't look right for an SD40 but I'm hardly an expert.

NYS&W SD40s & SD40Ts

Do all the NYS&W SD40 variants have squared off long hood ends like 3014 does in the attached picture _IGP2071? There has been an unfamiliar yellowjacket operating around here, and I have not been able to get an ID on it - seen it twice, couldn't get a road # either time. The only thing I can sa...
