Thanks, everyone. It was definitely the O&W ROW that I saw. I had thought it was still north of Rte 49 at that point, but evidently it crossed the highway a second time west of the 49/13 intersection in Vienna. By the way, the pictorial website dates from 2007 according to the text within.

While out for a ride this afternoon, I passed through Sylvan Beach on the east end of Oneida Lake. On the way north on Route 13, I made a left turn onto Lakeshore Rd to try to stay near the lake. A short distance past that turn off, I realized I was paralleling what appeared to be an old railroad em...

According to the news out of Albany this week, the North Country Economic Council received a fair chunk of change to revitalize the rails to Newton Falls. See the article.

Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation purchased the line from Conrail from the Hannibal Street crossing north to Oswego when they converted the Oswego Steam Station from coal to oil back in the 1970's. The line, along with about a mile of the Hojack from the old West Side yard in Oswego out to the Town o...

Did you ever contact the Sterling Historical Society to see if they have any pictures of the Crocketts depot? Crocketts is located in the township. The historical society does have a mileage marker and the old signal tower from Sterling Station (Junction) on their premises. Just a thought ... :-)

Here is an old-time picture that shows the area in question back in the heyday of passenger train travel in Albany. I don't know the date, but it predates the building of the architectural mess on the back (north) side of the State Education Building and I believe that was some time in the early 195...

In this video, there is an overgrown siding that makes an appearance. Any idea what it was for and does it have any long-term role in the CMRR operations?

On the opposite (entry) side of the fairgrounds is a single track that seems pretty well maintained. Am I right in assuming that it is CSX-owned also? Is it used with any regularity? Last (slightly off-topic) question: what is the massive factory building that runs along one end of the fairgrounds ...

Hmmmm ... looking at that picture, I'd say that the path goes from right to left. :-D
I wouldn't be suprised but what the path remains stationary while it is we who wander back and forth in confusion. :-D :-D

Mr. Hunt ... Many thanks to you for your answers to my questions. It is small wonder that the CMRR has accomplished all that it has over the years with friendly and courteous people like you involved.

:-) Many thanks for the info and the pictures. :-)

What was the logic in removing the Kingston switch in 1996? Did it somehow interfere with CSX's operations there? Is there any reason or chance for it ever to be restored?

This question may have an obvious answer, but since the CMRR is an orphaned line, severed by Conrail years ago, how have you managed to get all of the rolling stock on its rails? Likewise, how have you been able to get an engine and cars west of Kingston over derelict bridges, etc? Also, are the der...

What line was this? (NYC Walkill Valley)

I was down in Ulster County today on Route 213 West headed out of Rosendale. The highway follows the Wallkill River (??) through that area and I was surprised to look ahead and see a miniature version of the Poughkeepsie New Haven Bridge going over the river and Route 213. What was more surprising w...

Big Indian to Giggle Hollow (MP36.4 to MP 38.9) on the Catskill Mountain Railroad The Lasher Road bridge which has been disassembled and placed on the tracks at MP36.9: OK, here are three questions. 1. Going backwards in time, it would be fun to read all of the naysayers that would have posted to a website to excoriate Governor Clinton for proposing to build a ditch across New York from Albany to a frontier village called Buffalo. Who in his right mind would ever have needed to improve travel time...
