Yes sir not shure why, but Q30409 had the CSXT 4518, or mabey it was 4515, but all of the 700 are going to the 4500, and all 800 are going to the upper 4600

I noticed CSX will begin to renumber their 700 series SD70AC's and 800
series SD80AC's to the 4500 and 4600 series to make room for new
locomotives
to take the 700 series. Makes no sense to me but what do I know? 700-789
will become 4500-4589 while 800-812 will become 4590-4602.

Makes good sense to me - they certainly ought to be situated near the
4700-4850 series.
Wonder if the new units are ES44AC's?

Doesn't make much sense to me, either. Best I can figure is maybe some AC
GEVO's are coming since 1-699 are AC GE's. 700 to 999 only allows for 300
units, though.

There's the odd-GE, even-EMD numbering scheme to contend with, so the
3000 series "should" be GE's. On the other hand, the 3000 series is
empty and would allow for years of EMD purchases.

It is also interesting to note that while the B30-7's and B36-7's are
dropping, a good number of SD40-2's are now being stored. There's 20 or
more SD40-2's sitting dead in Cumberland.

This is news to me guys, but it is to only be two locomotive series to recieve the C&O/SBD number system? When is the renumbering project set to begin?

It already has! The former 718, has already been renumbered to the 4518, and has been to Grand Rapids, on a grain train, and it is now up to the Toledo Docks. In the process of the renumbering, they used the decals like they did on the CR units, and it has lost its lightning bolt. There is also one other on that has been renumbered, but cant rember the number right now.

Right now either completed or in progress are...
CSXT4518
CSXT4543
CSXT4550
CSXT4556

Apparently, the SD70s did not keep the lightning bolt after all. This is because 4583 went by me a little while ago going east and I did not see the bolt under the engineers side number.

I'd like to keep track of which SD70/SD80's have been renumbered so far,
here's the ones I've read so far:
4500, 4518, 4528, 4532, 4537, 4543, 4550, 4556, 4557, 4583, and SD80 4594 (the 0804!)

And just saw the 4602 (812) done.

Somebody must be thinking like me. On 4500's conductor side only the 7 has been covered up and a 45 placed over it. If I was supposed to renumber the units I would do something stupid like using mailbox letters or a can of black spray paint.

Caught 4500 yesterday in Richmond VA trailing on N125-04 headed south from West Acca at 500 PM yesterday

The 4556 was in Detroit yesterday, with a lightning bolt, altough it looked like the top portion of it got covered up by the new number decal. I had the 765 the other day and would expect it to be renumberd, some time in the next 15 days, as it was due its 92 day inspection.

4527 has been repainted completely into Yn3 and DOES HAVE Lightning Bolts under the cab numbers. It was trailing of course, but it looks good in Yn3.
