54/56 now head into Springfield northbound, then back out onto the NHHS line, then head north with the original leading engine across the CSX Boston line to the Conn River line. 55/57 cross the CSX Boston line and back in to Springfield before heading south to New Haven. Seats can all face forward now. This is the same move used by the Montrealer(/Washingtonian) from 1972 to 1987. NH and B&M trains operated in a similar pattern, except northbounds often crossed the B&A (today's CSX Boston line) and backed into one of the north side station tracks.
